CISSY...BUT SHE LOVES GAMES

Kathy Garver turned many a teenage boy's head during
the years she was Cissy Davis on CBS's Family Affair. She still can.
At July's Game Show Congress 5 in Burbank, Garver made
a young fellow named Joe Van Ginkel happy. Playing a brief trivia game before
her testimonial for Peter Marshall, Garver awarded an autographed edition of the
first season DVD edition of Family Affair to Van Ginkel for his correct answer.
Van Ginkel quickly knew the Marshall-named "lox
box" on Hollywood Squares was the lower tier center square. Garver knew of
the box from firsthand knowledge. It's where she sat on most of her 25
appearances on Squares.
Forty years after she began to essay the role of
America's most popular TV teenager (Jeff and Mary Stone, Beaver and Wally
Cleaver and the Nelson boys had all fallen victim to the graveyard of
cancellation), Garver still has the same energetic and vivacious personality she
displayed in five years on Family Affair.
In this week's Cover Story, Garver recalls how Cissy
was her ticket into the door of game shows, a door she gladly walked through as
often as someone would ask.
