THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my dear, sweet husband David Travis, who passed away from cancer early in the morning of August 30, 2025.
The words to Bette Midler’s 1988 hit Wind Beneath My Wings from her film Beaches comes to mind when I think of David. David was a very private, hard-working man, and he had the strongest work ethic of anyone I have known.
When we married more nearly 5 decades ago, I worried if he could really be happy with a very public person like myself – just as he worked tirelessly as a very successful sales executive, I put the same effort into my work on stage, in film, in commercials and voice-over work, and I was often in the spotlight.
It is true what they say about opposites attracting one another. David never complained, even at those times when I would travel extensively for various projects. We welcomed our son Reid into our lives, and you’ve never known a more dedicated husband or proud father.
To Reid and me, David was the real celebrity in our family. And Bette Midler’s words never rang more true than they do to me now, as I say goodbye to my best friend and the love of my life.
This is for you, David.
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind
So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
